A Brief History Of Morgan Academy Former Pupils Rugby Football Club

The inauguration Meeting of the Club was held in Morgan Academy on Monday 18th September 1933 at 7.15p.m.  Dr Leighton, school rector was chairman.

The motion that a Rugby Club be formed was sponsored by A Ramsay and seconded by D Creighton.  The proposal was unanimously accepted and the following office-bearers appointed:-
Hon. President     Dr Leighton

Captain                A Ramsay

V/Capt                  D Creighton

Secretary             D Thomson

Treasurer             S Smith

Committee           D Graham; G Murray; W Hendry

The annual subscription was :- Seniors -15 shillings (75 pence) and Juniors (under 19) - 10 shillings (50 pence).

The list (in no particular order) of members for season 1933-34 was as follows:- D Graham; D Creighton; A Ramsay; G Fraser; T Gray; J Robbie; G Bowden; D Blair; H Whyte; T Simpson; R Dow; J Miller; J Smeaton; S Smith; H Brown; J Ogilvie; A Anderson; A Forbes; G Knowles; T Stocks; A Imrie; D Stewart; D Thomson; H Moncur; J Frain; G Murray; E Chalmers; J Graham; JW Baxter; H Simpson; F McDermid; I Chapman; W Hendry; J Baxter; I Smith; _ Scott; _ Waterston.

A further meeting was held on Friday 6th October 1933 to establish a Club 2nd XV.

The Club lapsed during the years of the Second World War (1939-1945) and re-established itself for season 1945-46 and became a full member Club of the SRU in 1956.

A brief read through the Minute books of the Club shows that even in the early years, the Club suffered from “members” not paying annual subscriptions timiously, poor numbers attending training and a poor turnout of playing members at Club functions.
